Inner Banks

The Inner Banks designate an approximately 57,568 -square-mile area on the east coast of the United States, part of the coastal region to the east of the state of North Carolina. This section of the coastal region is called the Inner Banks (Inside the banks ) to distinguish it from the barrier island chain of the Outer Banks (outer coast), to distinguish a popular tourist attraction. The Inner Banks include over 4500 kilometers domestic coast and more than 2.5 million people live in the region. Crystal Coast and the Albemarle region are also usually considered one of the Inner Banks. The area is of small business owners and as a retreat for retirees increasingly appreciated .. " Inner Banks " is normally abbreviated with the acronym IBX, the term itself is an invention of the developers and the tourism industry to the predominantly rural area a more attractive appeal for visitors and retirees to give, it is rarely used in everyday speech.

Geography

According to the general definition are the Inner Banks of Interstate 95 on the west, the Outer Banks to the east and extending from the border of the neighboring state of Virginia in the north to the southern border to South Carolina. The 41 counties that make up the region, cover an area three times larger than the state of New Jersey, although many regions that are farther from the coast, themselves not feel as part of the Inner Banks and rarely are included. Albemarle region

Northeast North Carolina or the Albemarle region consists of 16 counties in the northeast of the state, adjacent to the Albemarle Sound and its tributaries, such as the Chowan River and the Roanoke River. Although the region historically lags economically far behind other regions of North Carolina, the region has a wealth of unexplored beaches, rivers and small towns. The region forms the northern part of the Inner Banks.

History

The region comprising the present-day northeastern North Carolina and southeastern Virginia, was one of the first areas in North America that was colonized by Europeans. The first British child was born in the New World, Virginia Dare, was born in 1587 in Roanoke Iceland in present-day North Carolina. The majority of this region flourished until the American Civil War, in which the farmland and the shipping companies have been the target of Union forces. Many cities in the region were completely destroyed in this period, including Plymouth and Winton. One of the first steel-clad warship, the CSS Albemarle was used by the Confederates in Plymouth.

Economy

Six small towns of the Inner Banks have to create the Creative Communities Initiative Affiliated to the regional economy by creating an appropriate environment for scientists, artists and other creative professions. The places are Ayden, Edenton, Hertford; Murfreesboro; Plymouth; and Tarboro.
