Innerste

Heart at the former military Silbernaal west of Clausthal

Origin of the name

The name inmost earlier forms Inste (1805 ), Inderste ( 1567), Indistria ( 1313 ), Entrista ( 1065 ) and Indrista (1013 ), probably goes back to the Indo-European root oid = swelling and strong. Maybe he is the qualifying expression in the name of the battlefield Idistaviso (16 AD). So he is not a superlative and without case - ending declines: Hildesheim is located at the heart, not: at the core.

Course

The innermost springs to 605 m above sea level. NN in the Upper Harz southeast of Clausthal- Zellerfeld just off route 242 you already flowing a few meters behind their source in the duck marsh, one built by the Clausthal miners in northeastern Buntenbock in the 16th century storage pond, which originally served the drinking water supply of Clausthal and the first forms of six barrages of the core. Subsequently, the heart flows through the Upper Wieser wet pond, the bear Brucher pond and the goats Berger pond. Through the swamp pond reaches Buntenbock - the first village through which it flows. South of Buntenbock passes through the heart of the Prince pond on the main road 241 and then turns west, then north. The valley of the heart is remarkably close now. Wild man and Lautenthal are the next places, through the middle of the heart flows. Here takes the heart with the Grumbach in Wild Man and the lute in Lautenthal its first tributaries. Next to her is good to see on a dam the route of the disused railway Innerstetal. The construction of the railway line at that time was considerably more difficult by the narrowness of the Innerstetals and the numerous bends of the river. North of Lautental where the valley widens slightly, which flows through the heart, early 1960s Innerstetalsperre reached shortly thereafter Langelsheim.

Between Langelsheim where it leaves the resin and the Grane opens, and Baddeckenstedt part of Innerstewassers flows in a karst area underground in 30 to 100 m depth and up to 3 km away from the actual flow ( Langelsheim Baddeckenstedter flume ). Then the heart flows through the southwestern city Salzgitter, namely through the castle park of Salzgitter Ringelsheim. Behind Salzgitter it reaches Holle, where flows the charming from the left side. Then you water passes through the territory of the city of Bad Salzdetfurth where the Lamb opens fertilizing in the district of Groß. On the southern outskirts of Hildesheim joins near the Marienburg which Beuster in the core.

After passing Hildesheim, where it flows through a newly created hydroelectric power plant at Dammtorbahnhof, it flows through the city and empties into Sarstedt whose northern district Ruthe from the right side into the lead.

Water and Geology

At the source, the heart is at first a low pollutant flow ( water quality class (GWK ) I-II ), but in the further course it reaches a critical load (GWK II -III).

From the heaps of ore mining in the Harz Mountains and from the flue gases of smelting derived heavy metals that are deposited in the sediments of the heart, the concentration of cadmium, lead and zinc, there is greatly increased. To protect the floodplain in front of the heavy metals, therefore, the heart was dammed below Langelsheim. The introduction of untreated or inadequately treated wastewater provides already above Hildesheim for excessive foaming and strong riechbare pollution, which is caused by the decreased demand for smaller treatment plants.

Innerstetalsperre

The Innerstetalsperre at Lautenthal in the Upper Harz was built in 1963-1966 and balances with its reservoir capacity of 20 million cubic meters of high and low water. The earth dam is 40 m high and 750 m long. 2003, the water was drained in order to perform up to 2005 construction work on the main dam and the facilities. Operators are the Harzwasserwerke. The reservoir (139 ha) can usually be used with sailing and rowing boats and fishing and on the edge for camping.

Tributaries

Important tributaries of the innermost downstream are considered, among others, the Grane, which opens coming from the east at Langelsheim that Neile, which flows between Salzgitter Ringelsheim and Sehlde from the south, the Nice, which flows west of Holle approach from the south, and the Lamme, which flows to the river at Bad Salzdetfurth large fertilizer coming from the south.

Reserves

Designated as a nature reserve, the NSG BR 131 "Medium Innerstetal with Kanstein " in 2008. This is in the nature area Innerste mountains and extends to the Innerstetal of Langelsheim on the northern edge of the Harz to United fertilizing, and has an area of about 563 ha The NSG includes the river the innermost and its wetlands and natural cliffs and high -level areas of the Kanstein in Langelsheim. The heart has here primarily on the dynamic and branched run a typical Harz foothills waters. Riparian forest fragments, shore herbaceous communities and partly highly trained river gravel - poor grassland and secondary ponds and ditches dominate the floodplain, on the Kanstein grow lime - poor grass and blue grass lawn. The NSG BR 131 includes the FFH 121 " Innersteaue ( with Kanstein ) " and complies with the bird sanctuary V52 " Innerstetal of Langelsheim to large fertilizer ".

Also from 2008 comes the NSG HA 134 " mast mountain and Innersteaue ". It is located in the city and district of Hildesheim and comprises 37 hectares, it is located at the junction of the biogeographic regions of the heart - mountain country to Hildesheimer Lössbörde. In NSG are wet meadows, numerous elements of a natural floodplain and the remains of a Altarmes. Near-natural floodplain forests are at the foot of the mast mountain and east of the core. The mast mount is mostly passed with an oak -hornbeam forest, on the western edge there is a remarkable inventory of Schneitelhainbuchen. In the north of Mast Mount Bronze and Iron Age grave mounds are preserved as cultural monuments visible above ground.

North of the NSG -HA 53 " Haseder bush " connects from the year 1974. It includes the forest Haseder bush and part of the south adjacent grassland area including the adjacent and enclosed portion of the core. The NSG " Haseder bush " and " mast mountain and Innersteaue " are part of the FFH area 115 " Haseder Busch, Giesener mountains, Gallberg, Finkenberg ."

A water level of the innermost of 6.75 m, the highest water level since records began in 1952. Baddeckenstedt in the district of Wolfenbüttel was measured was also flooded, rail traffic on the railway line Hildesheim - Goslar had to be stopped.
