Insect trap

An attractant trap ( also called pheromone trap ) is used for pest control and to determine the size of a pest population, used especially in insects.

Operation

Attractant traps are provided with species-specific pheromones, for example, and glue cardboard boxes or panels. The male insects follow the attractants that are normally emitted by females, and stay adhesive hang. This can be reduced so far in some insect species, the number of matings and thus the number of offspring that the damage to the agriculture and forestry are justifiable.

Bark beetles are angeködert usually with aggregation pheromones. To catch slot traps are used. This flight traps are comprised of opposing impact surfaces and a receiver. Looking for the fragrance source, the bark beetle crash into the trap and are passed through slots in a container under the trap. Here it must be disposed of regularly. The case slot system works -toxic.

In the vineyards and orchards, the pest population with pheromone traps determined (eg codling moth, grape berry moth ) to possibly intervene specifically with insecticides. Even when corn rootworm attractant traps are used for monitoring. Also commercially attractant traps to combat fruit flies are offered.

Certain clearwings species, such as alder clearwings whose mass occurrences can do in alder and birch stocks damages speaks very well to pheromone preparations. Sometimes fly thousands of male moths such bait.
