The Institute for Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis ( ITAS ) was established on 1 July 1995 after a long institutional history. Since October 1999 it is run by Armin Grunwald. With the merger of the Universität Karlsruhe ( TH) and Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe on 1 October 2009 the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), ITAS was institutionally a research institution of KIT, the same time of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres belongs ( HGF). ITAS is about 100 scientific staff, the largest and longest established academic institution in Germany that deals in theory and practice with technology assessment (TA) and system analysis. Since 1992, the journal Technology Assessment - out theory and practice ( TATuP ).

Objectives and Tasks

In 1975, the area of " Planning and Innovation " of the SfS in the guided Wolf Häfele Institute for Applied Systems Technology and Nuclear Physics ( IASR ) is transferred to the research center of Karlsruhe.

In 1977, the independently operating department for Applied Systems Analysis ( AFAS ) is then established, which is headed by Herbert Paschen. Following a decision of the Supervisory Board of the Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe AFAS is enhanced even under the direction of Herbert Paschen on 1 July 1995 and to the Institute for Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis ( ITAS).
