The Institution of Structural Engineers, IStructE abbreviated, is a global professional body for structural engineering. She is resident in the UK and has over 23,000 members in 105 countries. The institution promotes and distinguished professional engineers and are regularly the journal The Structural Engineer from.

History

The Institution of Structural Engineers was founded on July 21, 1908 at the Ritz Hotel in London as Concrete Institute. Background was the need, standards and regulations in the use of concrete set in the industrial construction industry. The driving force behind the creation was the architect Edwin Sachs (1870-1919), who founded in 1897 the British fire - prevention committee. The first headquarters was in London's Pall Mall on Waterloo Place # 8; first president of the Society was Robert George Windsor - Clive, 1st Earl of Plymouth.

It was founded as a nonprofit Concrete Institute Limited Liability Company, which renamed itself in Institution of Structural Engineers on 28 September 1922. The company wanted to make it clear that all issues and aspects of structural engineering are covers by them. 1925 Association had 1,700 members. In the 1920s, training programs have been introduced for engineers and established regional offices. On May 4, 1934 put you on the so-called Royal Charter, a royal statute, which gives the body a special status. The first office outside the United Kingdom was founded in South Africa in 1937.

Organization

Members

The members of the Institution of Structural Engineers are divided into different stages. There are, among other steps for aspiring Engineers ( Student Member), trained professionals, associate members and the Fellow. Members and Fellows are known as Chartered Engineer. Members through internal entrance exams, which take place once a year on the first Friday in April. The seven-hour test examines the candidates for inclusion on their skills in structural engineering, design and practice. The candidate must have a grasp of the principles of structural design as well as possess the solution to transpose adequately and present.

Structure

The Company is managed at the top by a Council, which is supplied from a sitting president, four future and four former presidents and other elected members for three years at the top, representatives of regional branches and other selected members. In the UK, worked in 2008 a total of 49 full-time staff for the management of the organization.

Tasks and Deliverables

The Institution of Structural Engineers is an organization that promotes the formation and activity of civil engineers through various measures and support.
