The Instituto Militar de Engenharia ( Military Technical Institute - IME) is a guided by the Brazilian military technical university. According to statements by the Brazilian Ministry of Education is one of the best engineering schools in the country. When carried out regularly by the Ministry evaluations ( both by tests of students as well as reviews of the infrastructure and facilities), the IME is on the first three places. The entrance examinations of the University are considered the most difficult, and usually covers the following subjects Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and the Portuguese and the English language.

The university is famous for the emergence of some of the most outstanding researchers. In addition, it is one of the oldest engineering schools worldwide. The current campus is located in Urca, Rio de Janeiro.
