Interchangeable parts

A standard part is a component of technology, civil engineering, electrical, or mechanical engineering, which is defined and described in detail in a standard.

They are defined by standards committees so that they are generally applicable and interchangeable. There are also factory standards of large companies have found the partial input in general use. These parts are often called also standard parts.

Standard parts are usually not manufactured but purchased from specific manufacturers. Suppliers and standard parts are usually administered in catalogs or directories, and more recently in digital parts libraries or parts management systems.
