Interfix
A Interfix, often called infix is an affix that occurs between other morphemes.
The term is used differently in terms of different languages :
- For joint elements between members of a composition, for example in German words lifeboat, Tannenbaum.
- For morphemes between stem and suffix, as in German rainy, portare Latin, Spanish purificar; these elements are themselves often counted among the suffixes.
- For morphemes that occur between the prefix and the root word, such as the pronominal objects in Old Irish: fot · gaibet, they find you ' ( in the old Irish Linguistics referred to throughout as infixes ).
