International African Institute

The International African Institute ( " IAI " ) was founded in London in 1926 (as the International Institute of African Languages ​​and Cultures ) for the study of African languages ​​. Diedrich Hermann Westermann was director from 1926 ( with the Frenchman Henri Labouret ) until 1939.

The IAI has been published since 1928, the quarterly magazine Africa.

The mission of the IAI is to " to promote the education of the public in the study of Africa and its languages ​​and cultures ." Its operations include seminars, journals, monographs, collections and the stimulation of research in Africa.

The archive of the International African Institute are located in the Archives Division of the Library of the London School of Economics. There is also an online catalog.
