International Broadcasting Convention

The IBC is, together with the NAB, one of the world's most important trade shows for film, television and radio production and sales. It takes place annually in September in Amsterdam at the RAI conference center instead. All relevant broadcasters, equipment manufacturers and technological umbrella organizations taking part.

Visitor

The IBC 2007 visited 46 964 registered guests from 120 nations. Of this amount, approximately 30% of exhibitors or invited speakers.

Offers

The IBC is basically divided into 2 areas:

  • The exhibition, which will present some 1,300 firms to 1,000 stalls their technologies and services.
  • The conference, which each deals with a specific topic of the day in the 7 days of the fairs.

In addition to these two main points there are various other subjects, so among other things:

  • The IBC D-Cinema. Here in maximum quality the latest content and technologies of the cinema industry are presented.
  • The outer region. In this most modern transmission vehicles are presented.

Amsterdam and the IBC

The fair is a considerable economic factor for the host city. During the IBC, hotel capacity of the city typically are already overloaded, and the hoteliers increase in this period, the room rates by up to 300%. For tourists, it is therefore advisable during the exhibition week in Amsterdam to book any hotel.

The IBC operates its own TV channel which is to be received during the exhibition in Amsterdam terrestrial and via cable.

Admission Prices

The entrance is to the show is up to four weeks before the start of free, if by that registration has taken place. Thereafter, the fair entrance fee is up to 100 Euros. Access to the conferences is bookable in different variations and can cost up to several hundred euros.

Role in industry

While at NAB typically announcements and prototypes are determinative, the finished devices at IBC then usually presented. So the RED camera was announced at NAB 2006, running pictures of this camera were at the IBC of the same year for the first time listed.
