International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River

The International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR), English International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River ( ISDPR ) is an international organization with headquarters in Vienna ( Austria ). The stated goal of the ICPDR is to implement the Danube River Protection Convention and the European Water Framework Directive in the Danube region.

Since its founding in 1998, the ICPDR has developed into one of the largest and most active networks of water experts in Europe. The ICPDR deals not only with the Danube itself, but also with the whole Basin, which includes tributaries and groundwater reserves.

The ambitious mission is to for the sustainable management of water resources and promote and coordinate the cross-border cooperation. This includes both the protection and the sustainable use of water bodies and related habitats. The ICPDR to develop proposals to improve water quality, develops strategies for flood prevention and control of impurities, sets standards for emissions and ensures compliance by States Parties.
