International Confederation of Free Trade Unions

The International Confederation of Free Trade Unions ( ICFTU abbr, English: International Confederation of Free Trade Unions ( ICFTU ) ) was founded in 1949 after the split of the WFTU as a merger of the Western democratic trade unions. He belonged to 233 organizations from 152 countries. The headquarters of the ICFTU in Brussels.

Objectives of the ICFTU were the abolition of child and slave labor, the enforcement of international labor standards, combating racism and occupational health and safety. He also campaigned for the fight against AIDS and HIV. 1999, the ICFTU was awarded the Hans Boeckler price.

The board of the ICFTU consisted of 53 members, who were elected on the all four -yearly congress. In October 2006, the ICFTU concluded with the World Confederation of Labour and eight other trade unions, the International Trade Union Confederation.
