International Conference on Afghanistan, London (2010)

The Afghanistan Conference 2010 was held in London on 28 January 2010. As a goal of the conference was given to verify the lasting since 2001, so-called security and reconstruction mission ISAF and to define concrete, verifiable mission objectives. In this context, the transfer of responsibility to the Afghan army and a timetable for the withdrawal of international forces should be discussed. To achieve the objectives defined a surge in the run has not been excluded.

Participants were several heads of state and government of the ISAF participating States, among others, the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Afghan President Hamid Karzai and regional leaders. The Conference adopted a final document, the Afghanistan Compact.

In advance of the conference on Afghanistan, President Karzai expressed his desire " to give Afghan face " of the conference, and these permit held in Kabul. With regard to a high security risk to the desire of many Western diplomats was refused. In July 2010, however, an international conference in Kabul took place on the successor of the Afghanistan Compact was adopted with the Kabul Process.
