International Council of Museums

The International Council of Museums (ICOM, International Council of Museums German ) is an international, non-governmental organization of museums, which was founded in 1946 in cooperation with UNESCO, with the aim to support the interests of museums worldwide.

The ICOM consists of 118 National Committees and 30 International Committees. The General Secretariat is located in Paris. The network has in 151 countries around the world, some 26,000 people as members. Communication languages ​​are French, English and Spanish.

The German National Committee of the International Council of Museums ( ICOM Germany ) has its headquarters in Berlin.

In 1948 the National Committee of ICOM Austria was founded and registered in 2004 as an association. In 2007, Vienna was the venue of the ICOM General Conference in 2007.
