International Federation of BodyBuilding & Fitness

The International Federation of Bodybuilding & Fitness ( IFBB ) is a bodybuilding organization. He has 183 global national sub- associations.

Competitions

The IFBB is responsible for the Mr. Olympia competitions, World Amateur Bodybuilding Championships and Ms. International competitions. The first competition of the IFBB was the election of Mr. America in 1949. This angered the former association AAU so that they forbade any of its members to participate in the Mr. America contest.

History

The association was founded in 1946 as the International Federation of Bodybuilders by Ben and Joe Weider. By 1940, the bodybuilding scene was under the control of the Amateur Athletic Union ( AAU). The Weider decided to establishing the IFBB because they were of the view that the AAU was only interested in the distribution of weight lifting, but not on bodybuilding.

In 1969 he became a member of the General Association of International Sports Federations ( GAISF ), today SportAccord. Since the 1980s, the association has sought to inclusion as an Olympic sport. A demonstration of a contest was in prospect, was designed in 2004 in Athens, but ultimately failed in a rejection. Bodybuilding, however, was variously represented at the World Games.

In November 2004, the IFBB Congress for a name change to the International Federation of Bodybuilding & Fitness wrong. The logo and the abbreviation " IFBB " however, remained unaffected.
