International Federation of Gynaecology and Obstetrics

FIGO is the abbreviation for Fédération Internationale de Gynécologie et d' Obstétrique (French for " International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics ").

This association has made ​​to the FIGO classification, a clinical staging ( localization, extent ) of gynecological tumors. The FIGO stages based on a clinical staging. In contrast, the TNM classification is based on surgery and / or pathological criteria.

FIGO was founded in 1954 and today has 110 national member societies as members. The headquarters is in Geneva. Every three years, organized by the World Congress of Gynecology & Obstetrics; the next will be held in Rome in 2012.
