International Filmfest Emden

The International Filmfest Emden | Norderney was founded in 1990 and is held annually on eight days in May and June in Emden on the North Sea island of Norderney instead. Venues include the New Theatre in Emden and Norderney Kurtheater.

The festival shows every year over 100 short and feature films on seven screens. The program focus is on current cinema productions from the north-western Europe. Because of its extensive range of current British films of the International Filmfest Emden - Norderney applies since 1993 as a supporter of British film productions in Germany.

New Movies from German speaking countries, directing and actor portraits, short films and a children 's and family program complete the movies. A large part of the program is shown in German premiere, many films are subtitled for the festival.

The five film competitions prize money totaling 31,500 euros will be awarded in total. Here, the audience decides the winner. The ( 2005 Volkswagen screenplay prize founded) Emden Screenplay Award is endowed with 12,000 euros and is awarded by a in close co- convened with the Grimme Institute jury.

In addition, complementary workshops, film talks, panel discussions and gala events for the opening and award ceremony the program. In 2009, over 22,000 spectators the festival, making it one of the best-attended film festivals in Lower Saxony.

The festival is co-chaired by Rolf Eckard and Silke Santjer.
