International Filmfestival Mannheim-Heidelberg

The International Film Festival Mannheim -Heidelberg takes place annually at the same place in the two cities of Mannheim and Heidelberg.

The film festival was founded over 60 years ago and is currently being held in October or November. Are expected mostly around 60,000 visitors, including about 1,000 trade visitors. The festival is not a film festival of blockbuster cinema, but rather a meeting of auteur cinema, but also the demanding foreign film. The focus of the festival is on the discovery and promotion of young talent. It mainly shows first or second works of young directors. The two main series are the International Competition and the International discoveries. In addition to the Berlinale and the Hof Film Festival Mannheim -Heidelberg is one of Germany's most important film festivals and is ranked among the top 40

Competition

The following prizes will be awarded:

  • Big Award of Mannheim -Heidelberg for the best feature film with a minimum length of 70 minutes
  • Special Jury Prize for the best film with a minimum length of 40 minutes. Or for an extraordinary performance, for example, as an actor, writer or director
  • Honorable Mentions of the International Jury for a remarkable film with outstanding achievements in the fields of acting, camera, music, installation, etc.
  • Audience Award is freely chosen
  • FIPRESCI Prize is awarded by international film critics
  • Prize of the Ecumenical Jury
  • Recommendations of the Jury of Cinema Owners for the rental
  • Art of Film Award for television in Germany was awarded in 2007

The 1993 through 2012, awarded special award in memory of Rainer Werner Fassbinder for the best film with an unconventional narrative structure with a minimum length of 60 minutes is not assigned because the agreement with the Rainer Werner Fassbinder Foundation Berlin, that of a registered legal protection in the use name Fassbinder, 2013 expired and was not renewed. Today, there is instead the Special Award of Mannheim -Heidelberg.

History

At the suggestion of Mayor Hermann Home Erich end of May 1952 for the first time carried out the " Cultural and Documentary Film Week " under the direction of Kurt Joachim Fischer. The event was located in the German film world quickly make a name and became the model for the " International Short Film Festival " in Oberhausen and the " International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film ".
