International Gymnastics Hall of Fame

The International Gymnastics Hall of Fame is a hall of fame and museum for the equipment and Gymnastics in Oklahoma City.

History

The International Gymnastics Hall of Fame was founded in 1972 by Frank Wells. Wells was a member of the National Gymnastics Clinic, one held annually in the U.S. Congress for gymnastic athletes, parents and gymnastics coach. As the first member Olga Korbut was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame. As at the end of the 70s, the National Gymnastics Clinic broke up, this also meant the temporary end of the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame. Only years later, the idea of Glenn Sundby, editor of the magazine International Gymnast Gymnastics, was taken up again. Sundby founded in 1986 building his publishing house in Oceanside the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame in the form in which it exists to this day. 1988 would re-recorded as the first member Olga Korbut. After 1996 Sundby had sold his magazine International Gymnast, the museum was closed a short time and moved to the beginning of 1997 to Oklahoma City.

Admission of new members

In the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame for both sports can be admitted as official or coach. Nominations can annually by member associations of the International Gymnastics Federation Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique be submitted or will be made directly by the Executive Board of the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame. The Board also decides who is accepted by the nominees. In the summer of each year, the ceremony / reception of four to six new members will take place.

Category Turner

To be inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame, an athlete must have won at least one Olympic medal in an individual competition. In addition, he has over a period of 10 years an active role in the promotion and development of gymnastics have played at national or international level.

Lifetime achievement

This category includes non-athletes as coaches or officials can be honored. Requirement is that they have exercised over a period of 20 years, a significant influence on the development of gymnastics in their home country and on the international participation.

  • KM: Returns the number of gold, silver and bronze medals at the continental championships (individual and team). This includes the medals won at Gymnastics European Championships European Turner, at the Pan American Games for North American Turner and Asian Games Asian gymnasts. (As of 2007)
