International Human Dimensions Programme

The International Human Dimensions Programme on Global Environmental Change ( IHDP ) is an international, interdisciplinary non-governmental scientific organization. It was founded in 1996 by the International Council for Science ( ICSU ) and the International Social Science Council ( ISSC ). The IHDP wants scientific research, capacity building and networking promote, catalyze and coordinate.

Topics range from the dynamics of land use and consequent land changes, institutional dimensions of global environmental change, human security, sustainable production and consumption systems, to food and water issues, urbanization and the global carbon cycle, ie climate change. According to the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, which accounts for a large portion of the financial resources, a special focus is on cooperation with developing and emerging countries.

Here, the IHDP works with several global partners: the International Geosphere - Biosphere Programme (IGBP ), the World Climate Research Programme ( WCRP ) and the International Programme on Biodiversity ( DIVERSITAS ). Together, these four organizations, the Earth System Science Partnership ( ESSP ). The IHDP also supports the Global Change System for Analysis, Research and Training (START) and cooperates with intergovernmental bodies such as the Asia- Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN ) or the Inter- American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI ). The Secretariat of the IHDP is since November 1996 at the University of Bonn. Its staff consists of an Executive Director, three International Science Project coordinators and five other locations. It has to forward the task to act as a distributor in the network of affiliated research centers and information on this as well as to relevant individuals.

The budget in 2004 was 1.1 million in 2005 and 930,000 U.S. dollars before $ 550,000 must be added for the implementation of the so -called open meeting.
