International Institute for Strategic Studies

The International Institute for Strategic Studies ( IISS ) ( German International Institute for Strategic Studies ) is a British research institute (or a think tank ) in the field of international relations and strategic studies.

It describes itself as the world's leading authority when it comes to military policy and political- military conflict. The headquarters is located in Arundel House, London. Offices in Washington, D.C. (USA), Singapore and Bahrain. IISS was founded in 1958 in the UK.

The IISS publishes Survival, a quarterly journal on international affairs.

The annual since the late 1950s Military Balance of the IISS, a detailed overview of the global military potential was, in the years 1979 to 1986 - offered by Bernard & Graefe Verlag in a German translation - in times of so-called " Second Cold War". In the annual reports of the Institute, the military strength of almost all countries is evaluated.
