International Institute of Welding

The International Institute of Welding (IIW ) is an international technical-scientific association for welding, soldering and related technologies. It is composed of the national welding associations from around the world. The institute was founded in 1948 by 13 national societies. By 2011, membership has grown to 53 national welding companies.

The General Assembly of the national societies defined the policy of IIWs and elect its President and a board. A permanent secretariat deals with regular daily activities and liaise with other international organizations.

The IIW has a number of specialized committees, each editing a relatively broad topic in the field of welding and joining technology scientifically and technologically. Some technical committees have technical sub-committees, each dealing with a specific aspect. The IIW participates in cooperation with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO ) with the establishment of standards in the Technical Committee TC44 ( Welding and allied processes ). A total of 21 ISO standards and updates were published under the direct responsibility of the IIW so far.

The IIW publishes the bimonthly international technical and scientific journal " Welding in the World."
