International Junior Art Festival

The International Junior Art Festival, short IJAF, is a music festival for youth groups from all over the world and takes place every year in late July / early August in the South Korean city of Gangneung on Gyeongpo -dae. Each year, approximately 300 young people from seven countries, around 500 people attend the festival each evening. Thus, it is in South Korea, the largest festival of its kind

Objectives

The aim of the festival is the one of the cultural exchange between Korea and other countries, on the other hand, the understanding of Korean culture to the festival participants. The concept therefore includes not only the performances of the participating groups in front of a large, international audience, but also a cultural program: About masked dances, paper folding, Taekwondo, museum visits and other workshops will be an insight into the Korean culture possible.

Expiration

The duration of the festival is four days. The groups appear once on the main stage at Gyeongpo Beach and on the side stage next to the municipal cultural center. The first evening of the festival starts with a big parade of all participants through the city towards the beach. Beginning and end of the festival will be celebrated on Gyeongpo Beach with a big fireworks display. During the festival, the groups can participate in various cultural workshops. The participation in the festival and the visit of the performances is free for the participating groups and the public.

History of the Festival

The origins of the International Junior Art Festival in East Asia Junior Art Festival, which was founded in 2002 by Mr. Jeong, Tae Hwan and had cultural exchanges Asian youth groups to target. 2004 participants were invited from Germany for the first time. Since then the festival will be continued under the title International Junior Art Festival. So far, groups have participated from the following countries: Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan, Mongolia, Indonesia, Russia, Germany, United States, Latvia, Lithuania and Australia.

The festival is the local division of the Federation of Artistic and Cultural Organization. Since 2009, she is assisted by the Gangneung Culture and Arts Foundation. The concrete implementation of the festival takes over the composite made ​​up of employees of both organizations Festival Committee. The most important sponsor is the city of Gangneung. Additional funds represents the state of Gangwon available. A close cooperation with the KBS Gangneung broadcast station, the KSGI Arts Council Korea and the Gangneung Danoje Festival Committee.
