International Kendo Federation

The International Kendo Federation ( FIK; formerly IKF; jap国际 剣 道 连 盟, Kokusai Renmei kendo ) is the world governing body of kendo. Its headquarters is the building of the All-Japan Kendōverbands in Minato -ku, Tokyo.

History

The FIK was founded in 1970 by 17 national and regional organizations in order to create a link between the members and the strong Japanese young international organizations. In the meantime, under its umbrella 47 organizations joined forces ( including the German Kendo Federation, the Austrian Kendo Association and the Swiss Kendo and Iaido SJV section as the national associations in the German-speaking countries and the European Kendo Federation as a regional association ). Since 2006 she is a member of the General Association of International Sports Federations. The abbreviation used until then was abandoned in favor of the now valid abbreviation, because the letters IKF has been used.

Tasks

Naturally, the focus of the FIK is on exchange and support of the member associations. The orientation of the kendo world championships and related tasks such as referee training and the development of uniform rules and standards are among the activities of the FIK. In addition to the kendo itself promotes according to their task well Iaidō and Jodo.
