International Livestock Research Institute

The International Livestock Research Institute ( ILRI) is an independent research institute with headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya. His research interests are in diseases of livestock in developing countries, the development of diagnostic possibilities and vaccines against it, as well as increase productivity and conservation of genetic diversity of livestock breeds. The ILRI is a member of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR ), funded by both of these as well as other public and private donors.

The Institute was created in 1994 by the merger of two predecessor institutions, the International Life Stock Centre for Africa ( ILCA ), Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and the International Laboratory for Research on Animal Diseases ( II lit ) in Nairobi. In addition to the ILRI Nairobi continues to maintain a significant location in Addis Ababa, also offices in East and West Africa, South and Southeast Asia, China and Central America. The ILRI employs over 700 employees from around 40 countries.
