International Military Sports Council

The Conseil International du Sport Militaire ( CISM ) is the global Military Sport Federation. An objective of the association is to promote the development of international military sport on a broad basis. It was founded on 18 February 1948 in Nice ( France). The first five founding members were Belgium, Denmark, France, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. The CISM today has 133 member countries around the world. Seat of the sports association in Brussels.

As a global sports organization, he is responsible for the implementation of the Military World Championships, so-called CISM World Championships in various sports. Just one year after its founding, he took over hosting the football World Military Championships. The participation of sports is largely based on the classical disciplines of the Olympic program. In addition, the CISM maintains military pentathlon.

The CISM Military World Championships are held annually in the respective disciplines, with only active sport soldiers are eligible for their respective countries. The motto of the CISM is "Friendship through Sport " friendship through sport.

Since 1995, organized by the Conseil International du Sport Militaire every four years the World Military Games in the summer, since 2010, there are also winter games. Military Sports in Germany

Germany is since 1959 a member of the CISM and since then regularly takes part with Bundeswehr national teams in different sports at Military World Championships and directed military world championships.
