International Osteoporosis Foundation

The International Osteoporosis Foundation ( IOF) is a non-governmental organization with the aim of research and education about diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis.

The IOF was founded in 1987 in Bern as a European organization and got its name after merging with the International Federation of Societies on Skeletal Diseases ( IFSSD ). In its 191 national societies from 91 countries, 90 scientists and 34 companies are represented.

The association works with an annual budget of about CHF 5 million, which is issued mainly for publicity, research and political lobbying.
