International Police Association

The International Police Association (IPA ) is the largest international professional association of police officers. It has about 400,000 members in 61 states.

History and Organization

The connection was established on 1 January 1950 under the Esperanto motto Servo per Amikeco ( Service through Friendship ) by the British police officer Arthur Troop to establish friendly relations and to encourage cooperation of police officers throughout the world.

The International Police Association is an independent association of active or retired members of the police service, without distinction of rank, gender, ethnicity, skin color, language or religion. It is therefore open to the police of any State which allows free and unhindered international contacts between police officers and the mutual exchange of experience. The IPA is political and union independent and not tied to any other group or institution.

Due to its purpose and objectives, the IPA is registered with the euro and Europe since July 26, 1995 at the United Nations with consultative status in the list of international non-governmental organizations ( NGOs) since 25 July 1977. The German section has been officially recognized as a professional organization since 2008.

Objectives

The primary objective of the IPA is to promote friendly relations, mutual aid and understanding between police officers at home and abroad. Thus, the international police cooperation is promoted by exchanges of experience and the image of the police and the ratio citizens through public relations - Police are positively influenced.

In addition to the advertising and work-up of current sociopolitical issues answers to questions in the field of tension between personal freedom and state control should be given.

The IPA is committed to the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, as proclaimed by the United Nations in 1948 and recognizes that any kind of torture is absolutely incompatible with these principles. In addition, the IPA is concerned with promoting mutual assistance in the social sector and would like to contribute within their means to the peaceful coexistence of different peoples and the preservation of world peace.

Offers

For their broad educational program is the IPA Germany the international information and education center (IBZ ) Castle Gimborn available. Through the IPA education and meeting events will be offered worldwide, sponsored vocational training for police study abroad scholarships and organized police-related studies and educational trips.

Every year there is an international youth meeting in another part of the world held for young IPA members and sons and daughters of IPA members.

The IPA offers inexpensive holidays and accommodation in recognized IPA houses at home and abroad for its members.

In many countries, national IPA magazine is published alongside regional bulletins.
