International Railway of Maine

The International Railway of Maine was a railway company in Maine (United States). The 232.7 km long route ran from the Canadian border at Mégantic after Mattawamkeag. She combined the two route networks of the Canadian Pacific Railway ( CPR) in the British colonies Canada and New Brunswick. With the closing of this last gap between the Pacific and Atlantic, the CPR was a transcontinental railroad.

Originally planned by the Penobscot and Lake Megantic Railroad, which is not yet built track was taken over in 1881 by the International Railway of Maine, bought on November 2, 1886 after operating the opening of the first section in the U.S., even from the Atlantic and North West Railway been. Only a few weeks later, on December 6, 1886, the CPR took over the route network. Today, the compound is a member of the Montreal, Maine and Atlantic Railway.
