The International School Hannover Region ( ISHR ) is an international school in Hanover, which is independently operated.

Basics

The ISHR was founded in 1996 to provide the international community in Lower Saxony, an educational institution for their children. Maintaining body is a non-profit International School Hannover Region GmbH. The control lies with the Supervisory Board. A School Board, consisting of elected representatives of parents and teachers, offers support and advice. The school's curriculum from kindergarten age (three years) to Grade 12 and is authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization in Geneva. The school is a member of the European Council of International Schools ( ECIS ) and the Association of International Schools in Germany (AGIS ).

Teaching

In the school year 2010/11, about 540 students from over 30 countries attend the school. They are taught by approximately 70 teachers who come mainly from North America, the UK and Australia. The language of instruction is English, German is taught as a mother tongue and as a foreign language from the 2nd class. Students can choose either French or Spanish as a second language from the 6th grade. Furthermore, subjects such as sports, art, music and computer science an integral part of the educational offer. This also applies to " Community Service ", a subject which encourages to use their community and their city for their school students. Extracurricular activities (voluntary activities) include other sports, music, literature and yearbook, school newspaper and student council. Also, Japanese is offered as a native language in addition to the prescribed subjects taught in the afternoon.

Training objective

The framework of the International Baccalaureate Organization offers a globally recognized training and education of the students. The international understanding should be promoted. At the end of 12th grade is a final exam that is centrally collected and evaluated by the International Baccalaureate Organisation. This Certificate is valid as admission to most universities worldwide.

Premises

The school has an extensive school grounds. It lies in the Calenberger Neustadt between the north bank of the Maschsee and the Schützenplatz Hanover. Parts of the school building, the former Ratsgymnasium were taken in 1990 by the Lower Saxony State Office for Monument due to its historical significance as well as its exemplary expression of the type of building as a single monument in the register of monuments. As architects Werner Dierschke and Anne Marie Bätjer - Kiene be called. The monument designation refers to the entire historic building group, with the exception of subsequent additions. 2006, the school was expanded with public support, so that it now has an auditorium, a gymnasium, an aerobics room, three science classrooms, three computer labs, a dining room with kitchen production and its own library.
