International Union for Quaternary Research

The International Union for Quaternary Research ( INQUA ) is an interdisciplinary science organization dedicated to the exploration of the geological age of the Quaternary (geology), the recent 2.6 million years dedicated to.

Her main research areas are the causes and consequences of natural climate variability in the current ice age.

The INQUA was founded in 1928 in Copenhagen at the initiative of Victor Madsen, head of the Danish geological mapping. From Germany were involved in the establishment, among others Paul Woldstedt and Rudolf Grahmann and from Austria Gustav Götzinger. In 1933, at the 16th International Geological Congress in Washington DC approved the extension of the INQUA beyond Europe and on the 3rd INQUA Congress in Vienna in 1936, scientists from the United States were the first time here.

The INQUA meetings shall be held every four years, for example, the 17th Congress 2007 in Cairns.

She is a member of the International Council for Science. The German section of the INQUA is the German Quartärvereinigung ( DEUQUA ).
