International Vegetarian Union

The International Vegetarian Union (IVU ) is a nonprofit organization with the aim of promoting vegetarianism worldwide. It was founded on 18 August 1908 during the first World Vegetarian Congress in Dresden. The idea for IVU came from the French Vegetarian Society, the first Congress was organized internationally by the British Society and locally by the Dresden Society with support from the vegetarian federation of Germany. Since there are a number of conferences that take place anywhere in the world.

The IPPC is conducted exclusively by vegetarians. Every individual, family or organization that supports the goals and objectives of the IPPC may be promoters of the IPPC, irrespective of whether they are vegetarian or not.

In order to promote vegetarianism, the following points are to:

  • Encourage the establishment of local, regional and national groups and to support their collaboration with each other.
  • To stimulate both world and regional conferences to bring vegetarian ideas to the public and to the vegetarians to give opportunity to interact with each other.
  • The procurement of funds to support local and regional groups, where it is necessary.
  • The research on all aspects of vegetarianism and the collection and publication about vegetarianism in any type of media by the IPPC itself and all its member societies to promote.
  • To represent vegetarianism with relevant bodies internationally and speak worldwide for vegetarians.

The activities of the IPPC are regulated by the General Assembly, which will be held in each World Congress. Between congresses, the International Council, whose members are elected at the congress, the responsibility for the daily flow at IVU.
