International Women's Year

The International Women's Year was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly for the year 1975. This year, the United Nations directed first to the International Women's Day on March 8, a celebration of. From 19 June to 2 July 1975, the first UN World Conference on Women was held in Mexico City.

As an emblem, a stylized dove was chosen in which a Venus symbol and an equals sign were introduced. It was designed by the then 27 -year-old New York graphic designer Valerie Pettis.

In the Federal Republic of Germany, the " Board of Trustees International Year of the Woman" was founded, which held its first meeting in Bonn-Bad Godesberg on 19 November 1974. It began with a welcome and a speech by Federal Minister for Youth, Family and Health Katharina Focke. On January 30, 1975 was followed by a policy statement by Katharina Focke in the German Bundestag. On February 16, 1976, the final event of the trustees was in Bonn.

Patron was the President of the Bundestag Annemarie Renger.
