International Year of Deserts and Desertification

The year 2006 was declared by the United Nations as the International Year of Deserts and Desertification.

The choice fell on 2006, because the entry into force of the UN Convention marks the tenth anniversary to Combat Desertification this year.

The aim is to make the desert areas of the world and in particular the problem of desertification (desertification ) carefully.
