Internet Society

The Internet Society ( ISOC) was founded in 1992 on the INET conference in Kobe (Japan) and is responsible as a non-governmental organization for the maintenance and development of the Internet infrastructure. The ISOC is headquartered in Reston, Virginia (near Washington, DC) and Geneva ( Switzerland ). It consists of more than 6,000 individuals and about 130 organizations from over 170 countries. The approximately 50,000 members are required to contribute to the global spread of the Internet and to ensure its continued existence. This includes, among other things, the publication of the so-called RFC. The Executive Board of ISOC (Board of Trustees ) consists of 15 members who are elected by all members worldwide. The ISOC hosts the authorities responsible for Internet standards and resource management bodies: IETF, IESG, IAB, IRTF and IANA (the latter in 2003 a part of their duties transferred ICANN ). Regular publications current developments are presented.
