Interpersonal psychotherapy

The Interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT ) is a short-term psychotherapy that was developed in the 1970s and 1980s as an outpatient treatment approach for adults with moderate to severe, non- delusional disorders. It is based on the Interpersonal Theory of Harry Stack Sullivan. Over the last thirty years a number of empirical studies have demonstrates the efficacy of IPT in depression treatment. Although it was originally conceived as individual therapy for adults, it was also to work with young people and patients in Involutionsalter - adapted and for use in counseling ( regression age from about the age of 45 ). It comes with bipolar disorder also been used, as in the case of bulimia and postpartum depression.

Although IPT is rooted in psychodynamic theories, it also engages cognitive- behavioral approaches to, on the one hand by their time limit, on the other hand through the use of homework, structured patient interviews and final effectiveness control.

The Interpersonal psychotherapy was developed by Gerald Klermann et al. initially intended as a placebo therapy in psychotherapy research, however, proved to be effective in the treatment of various psychological problems. It is based on the idea that mental health problems are caused by communication disorders, which in turn depend on the basic relationship patterns.
