Interstate 595 (Florida)

Interstate 595 (abbreviated I-595 ) is an Interstate Highway, which runs over a length of about 20 km from Sunrise to Port Everglades in Broward County in the U.S. state of Florida. The road is with Florida State Road 862 congruent and is locally known as Port Everglades Expressway.

Route

The interstate begins in Sunrise, where it branches off at a motorway junction of Interstate 75 and State Road 869. Then she leads with multiple entries and exits parallel to State Road 84 before they successively State Road 817, the Florida 's Turnpike, U.S. Highway 441/State Road 7 and Interstate 95 crosses. Finally, it ends at Port Everglades south of Fort Lauderdale and north of Fort Lauderdale- Hollywood International Airport.

History

In the planning phase in the early 1980s, the Interstate was provided as a toll road to cover the construction costs quickly. These plans were to start-up, however, rejected again. A western section was finally opened to traffic on October 21, 1989 May 1988 an eastern section on 24 February 1989 and the central section. On 11 June 1990, the street was named as Interstate 595 and the Rainbow Interchange was completed with Interstate 95 on 22 March 1991.
