Intertransversarii muscle

The Musculi intertransversarii (Latin for " between the transverse process of muscles," Singular intertransversarius musculus ) are a group of skeletal muscles that the intertransverse System ( Systema intertransversale ) of the " site- standing back muscles " are. These are muscles that connect the transverse processes of the vertebrae and thus give the spine strength.

These muscles can be classified according to their localization on:

  • The Musculi intertransversarii media lumborum connect the processus accessorii adjacent lumbar vertebrae.
  • The Musculi intertransversarii lateral lumborum connect the transverse processes of adjacent lumbar vertebrae and are not strictly to belong to the autochthonous back muscles. They can be viewed as analogues of the intercostal muscles.
  • The Musculi intertransversarii thoracis connect the transverse processes of adjacent thoracic vertebrae.
  • The Musculi intertransversarii anterior cervical connect the anterior tubercles of adjacent cervical vertebrae and are not strictly to belong to the autochthonous back muscles. They can be viewed as analogues of the intercostal muscles.
  • The Musculi intertransversarii posterior cervical connect the posterior tubercles of adjacent cervical vertebrae.
  • Skeletal muscle of the trunk
  • Spinal column
  • Skeletal muscle of the neck
