Inventory (library)

A revision in a library used to check ( inventory ) of the actual library collection. The revision is one of the tasks of the library administration. In the revision losses and damages can be determined and the inventory shall be reviewed and changed in magazine, freehand area and reading rooms.

Through a revision of damaged and usage and archiving endangered media can be identified and necessary measures (prophylactic or therapeutic ) are introduced in order to avoid a higher level of damage. To audit the access list of the media and the location of the catalog or the signature file are needed. There, the results (loss, damaged, missing, or use to relieve ) is entered.

In the revision, there are, as with other forms of inventory in three ways: total revision, partial revision and ongoing revision.
