Inver Grove Heights is a city in the U.S. state of Minnesota. It is located in Dakota County located and has around 29,800 inhabitants.

Geography

Inver Grove Heights is part of the metropolitan area of Minneapolis -Saint Paul in the Midwestern United States. The city is located about 14 kilometers southeast of St. Paul. The Mississippi River runs to the east of the city and serves as the city limits.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the area of the city is 78.0 square miles, of which 3.8 square miles of water.

History

After the Treaty of Traverse the Sioux began in the 1850s, the population of the area. Mostly German and Irish immigrants settled there and formed a community. The Irish use the land around the Rich Valley for agriculture, while the Germans settled in the forest areas around the lakes in the north- west of the present city, and these cultured. 1858 a township was established. By 1880, originated in the village of 240 farms, four churches and four school districts.

After 1909 within the townships Village was founded, the city of Inver Grove Heights was formed on March 11, 1965 from areas in the townships and the Village.
