Invermere, British Columbia

Invermere is a district municipality in the southeast of the Canadian province of British Columbia.

Location

The city is located near the Alberta border in the northwest of Lake Windermere. The main part of the actual village is situated between the lake and the Columbia River. According to Calgary in the Northeast is around 120 kilometers.

History

Only after a long period of sluggish growth, came on May 22, 1951 for the recognition of the political community Village Invermere (incorporated ) and the associated granting of local autonomy. A further recognition as a District of Invermere was made on 29 November 1984.

Demography

The census in 2011 showed a population of 2,955 inhabitants of the district municipality. The population has decreased while compared to the census of 2006 at 1.6%, while the population in British Columbia grew simultaneously by 7%.

Traffic

In north-south direction, leading to the eastern side of Lake Windermere, the Highway 93 and Highway 95 by the District Municipality. The thoroughfare Toby Creek Road connecting the village to the highway. According to Calgary in the Northeast is around 120 km.

About 2 kilometers north-east of the village there is the airport ( Transport Canada Identifier: CAA8 ). The airport has only a short 914 meter paved runway, and runway.

Furthermore leads through the town a railway line.

Tourism

With up to 40,000 visitors on summer weekends, Invermere is the tourism center in the valley of the Columbia River between Golden and Cranbrook. In the summer of Invermere is a tourist destination for visitors from Calgary.
