Economy

The economic development of the area began with the opening of the coal mine by MacKenzie and husband in 1890. Early 20th century, a railway line to Port Hastings built to carry away the coal. The majority of coal was exported to Maine, Prince Edward Iceland and Europe. Other mines in and near Inverness took on your business and contributed to a "boom" in the city. Immigrants from Europe flocked to the area and led MacKenzie and husband to build houses for its employees. After the 2nd World War, however, stagnated degradation, so that until 1958 all the mines were closed.

After years of stagnation, the town sets its primary focus on fishing and tourism.
