Investors in People

Investors in People (IIP or IiP ) is a quality management system and Investors in People UK is the name of an organization based in the United Kingdom, which works as a framework directive for the dissemination and application of the Investors in People standards. Investors in People UK provides businesses of all kinds a guide available, which serves as an assessment standard for certification as an Investor in People.

History

Investors in People UK was established in 1993 as a joint initiative between industry and government in the UK to life in order to strengthen the competitiveness of UK companies in international comparison.

The first version of the standard put the focus on staff development and operational training and education as a prerequisite for a positive organizational development. In the early years the quality label exclusively British companies was reserved.

With increasing pressure internationally operating company was started in 1997 with the worldwide circulation. In addition, non-profit organizations ( NPOs) have been certified, so that today approximately 40,000 companies and organizations in more than 20 countries work with the standard (as of 2008).

The revised version of 2004 goes far beyond mere personal development and focuses on effective corporate governance. Meanwhile, the basic model was modified to include profiles that cover topics such as sustainability, work-life balance or Social Responsibility. As a basis for the ( further) development of standards in each Best Practice serve studies.

Organization

The partner organizations of Investors in People UK are usually non-profit organizations. They are responsible for the construction of a consultant and assessor pools and provide services, materials and training courses in the local language.

Members of the consultant and assessor pools are officially accredited by Investors in People UK or the International Quality Center.

Content

The Investors in People standard comprises three principles with a total of 10 indicators:

  • Learning and personal development are planned so that the organization's goals can be achieved.
  • The HR strategy promotes equal opportunities in staff development.
  • Management and personnel development skills are clearly defined and understood.
  • " An Investor in People is active in order to improve its performance with its employees. " Leaders lead and encourage their employees effectively.
  • The contribution of employees to the goals of the organization is recognized and valued.
  • Through their participation in decision making, employees are encouraged to take personal responsibility.
  • Employees learn and develop with success.
  • " An Investor in People can demonstrate the impact his investment in the employees on the organization's performance. " The investment in the employees improves the performance of the organization.
  • Personnel management and development to improve continuously.

Implementation

Organizations can implement the standard in a multistage process largely self or with external support:

  • Analysis (Review): self-assessment and / or inventory by External to identify the need for action
  • Commitment ( Commitment ): Decision for the Investors in People and the notification of this decision to all employees
  • Planning and implementation ( Planning and Taking Action ): Action Plan and gradual implementation of improvement measures

The label is valid for three years, followed by an additional, simplified recognition process ( Post Recognition Review) is possible.

Importance

The Investors in People Standard is directly comparable with the EFQM model, since the approach is based on principles and the same result, namely to a continuous improvement process. Unlike EFQM is the targeted personnel management and development starting point for all considerations and not just one - albeit central - factor among others. The attitude underlying is thus another. Investors in People alone leads by focusing on leadership and employee development to improvements.

The introduction of Investors in People is less complex than the EFQM model. The assessment leads to the award of Investor in People label, which as an ISO certification in marketing - can use - especially in personnel marketing.

Investors in People combines the benefits of an effective outward labels with a holistic, systematic and non-bureaucratic approach, personnel management and development has consistently oriented to the corporate objectives.

Independent research institutes certify periodically the positive impact of Investors in People on profits.
