Ioan Lupescu

Ioan Angelo " Ionut " Lupescu ( born December 9, 1968 in Bucharest ) is a former Romanian football player, coach and current official. He played a total of 227 Bundesliga appearances for Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Borussia Moenchengladbach. For the Romanian national football team, he participated in the Football World Cup 1990, the Football World Cup 1994, the UEFA European Football Championship in 1996 and the European Football Championship 2000 in part.

Playing career

Ioan Lupescu began his career in 1979 in the youth of Mecanica Fina Bucharest. In 1982 he moved to Dinamo Bucharest. He made ​​his debut at age 17 in Divizia A, when he ran aground in the 4-1 win against Dinamo SC Bacau on 21 September 1986. After winning the championship and the Cup in the 1989/90 season Lupescu moved to Germany to Bayer 04 Leverkusen. There he won the 1993 DFB-Pokal. After Bayer Leverkusen had secured in the 1995/96 season until the last game in the league, Lupescu moved to Borussia Mönchengladbach. In 1998 he returned to Dinamo Bucharest and won again in 2000 league and cup. After a short trip to Bursaspor in the Turkish Süper Lig at the beginning of the season 2000/ 01, Lupescu returned again to Dinamo Bucharest. After he had been involved in seven of the first eight league games of the season 2001/ 02, Lupescu moved in October 2001 to Saudi Arabia with Al- Hilal. There, however, he could not cope with the heat and broke after a few months of his contract again. In 2002 he moved to Qatar and finished there in 2003 at Al -Sadd his career.

National

Lupescu denied a total of 74 caps for Romania and scored six goals. He made his debut on February 3, 1988 against Israel. Lupescu took part in the Football World Cup 1990 in Italy and at the Football World Cup 1994 in the U.S. and reached the quarterfinals here. Also in the European Football Championship in England in 1996 and at the European Football Championship 2000 in Belgium and the Netherlands stood Lupescu in the squad and played the majority of games. After the European Championships, he retired from the national team.

Coaching career

Lupescu acquired in 2003, the coaching license at the German Sport University in Cologne. After his retirement he became coach in 2003 by FCM Bacau, the Romanian football league in the highest, the Divizia A, played in December. Awards

On 25 March 2008 Lupescu was the Romanian President Traian Basescu for the qualification of the national team for the European Football Championship in 2008 with the Order of Merit " Meritul sporty " III. Class excellent. He is Honored Master of Sports.

Relationship

Ioan is the son of former Romanian international's Nicolae Lupescu, who for a time looked after him as a manager.
