Ioan Tănăsescu

Ioan Tănăsescu ( born February 23, 1892 in Bucharest, Romania, † December 28, 1959 same place ) was a Romanian chemist.

Life

From 1904 to 1911 Tănăsescu studied at the University of Bucharest and then went to the University of Cluj where he graduated in 1912, the State. In 1920 he became laboratory manager and in 1922 Dr. rer. nat. doctorate. He habilitated in 1927 and was appointed at the University of Cluj in 1930 the title of Professor of Organic Chemistry. He is best known for his work in the field of nitrogen heterocycles, and in particular that of the acridines. Together with the German chemist Kurt Lehmstedt he developed the Lehmstedt - Tănăsescu reaction at the 2- nitro-benzaldehydes reacted with aromatics and respond to acridones. In addition, he conducted research in the field of polycyclic hydrocarbons with only a common ring atom ( spiro compounds ).
