Iolaus (butterfly)

Iolaus is a genus of butterflies ( butterflies ) of the family Lycaenidae ( Lycaenidae ). It is named after Iolaus, the nephew and companion of the demigod Heracles.
Occurrence
The genus has to find their distribution in the Afrotropical, but individual species as Iolaus glaucus are also in North Africa and the Levant.
While many moths of the genus are rarely seen, but they have an extremely large area of distribution. Butterflies kind of Iolaus alienus about are found throughout sub-Saharan Africa, and the distribution area of Iolaus diametrical extends to almost one million square kilometers. For this reason, among the species of the genus as hardly at risk, despite their low abundance.
