Ion Barbu

Ion Barbu (actually Dan Barbilian; born March 19, 1895 in Câmpulung; † August 11, 1961 in Bucharest ) was a Romanian writer and mathematician.

Life

Ion Barbu studied in Bucharest, Berlin and Göttingen, the subjects philosophy and mathematics. He received his doctorate in Göttingen as a doctor of philosophy and worked from 1942 as a professor of algebra in Bucharest. However, his actual work area was geometry. He is the inventor of a specific metrics Jordan shear areas; was known especially his two -part work for geometry over rings (1940 /41).

Even his first publications in literary magazines (including in Contimporanul ) ensured by their sonorous and eloquent combination of neologisms and archaisms a stir in the art world, because he was clearly assigned to any of the poetic currents of his time. Ion Barbus work always addressed the various aspects of human existence. In addition to his own work, he translated works of William Shakespeare into Romanian. He died on August 11, 1961 in Bucharest.
