Ion Bogdan

Ion Bogdan ( born March 6, 1915 in Bucharest, † July 10, 1992 ) was a Romanian football player, coach and lawyer. He played a total of 150 games in the highest Romanian football league, the Divizia A, and participated in the World Cup 1938.

Career as a player

At the age of 13 years, Bogdan started at Unirea Tricolor Bucharest to play soccer. In the season 1933/34, he moved on to the first team and made his debut on October 8, 1933 in an away win against România Cluj in Divizia A. It was only in the 1935/36 season he became the starting player, the club left end of the season, however, and joined local rivals Rapid Bucharest. Unlike Unirea Tricolor Rapid had the potential to play along the Romanian championship. In Rapid Bogdan developed into a prolific attacker and made a name as a dribbler. In November 1937 he left Rapid without informing his club about to embark on the search for an employer in France. In 1938, he played for a short time at Red Star Paris, but returned then back to Rapid Bucharest. In the season 1940/41, he was together with Valeriu Sony Niculescu scorer with 21 goals. A winning the championship he never succeeded. Instead, he won with Rapid in the years 1937 to 1942 the Romanian Cup six times in a row. In addition, he scored 3 goals in 9 Mitropa inserts.

After the Second World War, Bogdan joined again at Rapid Bucharest, which took now under the name of CFR Bucharest. In the fall of 1946 he went abroad, however, looking at the Hungarian club MTK Budapest a new challenge. Already in the summer of 1947 he went to Italy to Bari in the Serie A, where for the first time he came on February 29, 1948 in the Game against AS Roma for use and his active career ended after a further three championship matches in June 1948.

National

Bogdan denied a total of 12 games for the Romanian national football team, scoring three goals. His debut celebrated on July 8, 1937 against Lithuania when he came on after ten minutes for Gratian Sepi and a few minutes later scored his first goal. A year later, coach Constantin Rădulescu called him into his squad for the World Cup in France in 1938 and put him in a rematch against Cuba.

Career as a coach

Bogdan returned in 1950 to Romania. He devoted himself next to his profession as a lawyer also a trainer. Among other things, he was responsible for the lower division clubs Dunărea Giurgiu, Bucharest Ospătari and Semanatoarea Bucharest. In March 1966 Romania Bogdan left in the direction of Lebanon, where he served as coach Racing Beirut and Al - Shabiba Mazraa to each a title.
