Ion N. Petrovici

Ion N. Petrovic ( born August 19, 1929 in Ploieşti ) is a German neurologist, adjunct professor of neurology and psychiatry at the Medical Faculty of the University of Cologne and Director of the Neurology Clinic Merheim. He described in 1962 the crossed Asyphigmo - Pyramidal Syndrome.

Ion N. Petrovic was born on August 19, 1929 in Ploiesti (Romania ), where he earned the state high school Peter and Paul in 1947 with the Abitur. He studied medicine at the University of Bucharest, he finished in 1953 with the medical state examination and received his PhD work with Degenerative discopathies.

The additional training in neurology received Petrovic at Arthur Kreindler and Vlad Voiculescu in the Department of Neurology of the Institute for Neurological Research of the Romanian Academy of Science in the years 1956 - 1959.

1964 Ion N. Petrovic joined the Neurosurgical University Hospital Bucharest as Head of the Department of preoperative diagnosis. Published together with Constantin Arseny, director of the Department of Neurosurgery, wet and Frank Petrovic 1965 monograph vessel -related brain and spinal cord diseases, and in 1966 was the main speaker at the National Congress of Neurology of Bucharest with the theme of the tumors of the Temporallapens.

1985 Petrovic was appointed director of the Department of Neurology Merheim, Academic Hospital of the University of Cologne, called function, which he held until his retirement in 1994.

Scientific occupied him work on cerebro- vascular diseases, about the treatment of malignant brain tumors, on the neurological localization theory and, in particular, on specific problems of neuropsychology, such as functional hemispheric specialization, interhemispheric transfer of information, the left ( non-dominant ) hemisphere and the language. The results of these studies are published in 14 contributions to monographs and manuals, as well as over 200 articles in professional journals.

His contributions to the development of neuroscience found by the Honorary Membership of the Romanian Academy of Medical Sciences and in 2003 by the diploma Academic merit and distinction with the G. Marinescu Medal of the Romanian Academy recognition.

Ion N. Petrovic is a member of the German Neurological Society, the German Society for Clinical Neurophysiology, German Society for Neuropsychology, Società Italiana di Neurologia, European Neurological Society, New York Academy of Sciences and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine ( London).
