Ionides

The Kytheros (Greek Κύθηρος ) or Kytherios (Greek Κυθήριος ) is a river in the region of Elis in ancient Greece. The river flowed about 40 stages of Olympia at a place called Heraclea in the Alpheus. According to Pausanias there a source who fed the river, on which there was a shrine that was dedicated to the nymphs Kalliphaeia, Synallasis, Pegaia and Iasis that are collectively known under the name Ioniden, named after the Athenian colony founder ion. The water of the spring is said to have healing properties. According to the report of Strabo it was the water of the river itself, which could cure diseases.
